Commuters face 5.8 per cent rise in train fares

Actor and comedian Michael Palin puts his name to the Fair Fares Now campaignHard-pressed commuters will find their season tickets have gone up by an average of 5.8 per cent thanks to fare increases which came into effect on Sunday.

An annual season ticket from Reading to Paddington now costs £3,584, up from £3,388, a rise of £196.
